Yayoi Kusama’s fondness for dots and repeating patterns arose during her non-rosy childhood. During that period, she often fled into nature, where she got delusions of flowers and pumpkins talking to her.

Art turned out to be the best way for her to deal with fears and hallucinations. Kusama has processed her negative experiences by implementing an infinitely positive dream world in her paintings and installations.

With this she hopes to convey a positive mood to herself and others. Despite her old age and mental health, Kusama is still active in creating new works.
